MrWhite: Mmmm, the only three creatures you can get at first are the ape, tiger, and cow. Supposedly each of the creatures has different starting capabilities. Like the ape is supposed to be smarter and more curious, the tiger more ferocious and a better fighter, and the cow strong and peaceful. Ummm, I hear that you can "unlock" some other creatures but when I tried using those patches nothing much happened that I could tell. I also hear talk of you being able to get access to different creatures later in the game. Anyways, it's a bada$$ game. It's VERY addicting and time seems to fly when I'm playing. However, I do have a few complaints. Like, the save game times get VERY long the more you play in a certain world. There is no way to skip past certain stupid intro and cut scenes that are really annoying if you've already seen them once. And the games seems to require a lot of micromanagement to the point where I've found it hard to take care of things when you start to expand. But that may just be me not knowing how to play. For example to cast spells you need people who aren't working to worship at your temple. The problem is that these people don't stop to get food, so you need to provide it. To do that you either need to pick it up from somewhere and transport it (slow and costs you to neglect other thigns) or cast a food miracle (spell). To cast spells you need the energy those worshippers provide. But if you're using that energy to cast stupid food spells, then you won't be able to use it for other things. My idiot creature refuses to learn how to take care of that so I have to do it myself. Then there is the problem with running out of wood. Wood seems to be in scarce supply. I think I need to find some way for my creature to go around growing forests or something (there's actually a forest spell). Oh, and a lot of those miracles (spells) require "hand" gestures with the mouse and are difficult to cast. My creature generally "tries" to do what I'd like him to. But sometimes he just sits around or does incredably stupid things, at which point I beat the crap outta him. :-) But it's hard to watch over him and maintain your towns at the same time. However training your creature is actually very well designed and the AI is quite impressive. That fool can even cast spells that you teach him! Well despite all those rants, the game really is very fun. I'll wait on passing a final judgment on the qualitiy until after I've had it for a couple of weeks. If it lasts that long on my HD then I'll give it a thumbs up. One last thing... for those of you without the $$$ to buy the game, there are other ways (unmentionable due to the AUP) to get it on the internet... look around.

My instructor at school bought it and brought it in. I'm normally a FPS player, but this one looks cool. It's not as restrictive as games like Star Craft and other "similar" games. The game is totally open, and what happens is based solely on your choices you make.We ran it on a PII 350MHz w/128MB RAM. It had a crappy video card, but it still ran really slow. The minimum is a PII 350MHz with 64MB of RAM and an 8MB video acclerator. However, the recommended is a P3 500MHz w/128MB RAM, and a 16MB or better 3D accelerator. I think I will give this one a try, as soon as I can find it. All the stores around here have been selling out as soon as they put it on the shelf.

As someone who has the game, I'd have to say it is one of the better games ever made. The AI is amazing, and the freedom within the game is superb. You get a choice of 3 creatures to start with, but 16 are playable in the game. (You can switch at certain parts of the game.)

My friend just bought that game, and well, he has not been around much since he got it. He says that it is be best, most unbelieveably good game you will ever play, no matter what type of game you like. If my parents would actually let me get computer games I would get it ASAP...

I think I might have to go out and buy this game from what every one is saying. It sounds really cool. Only one problem for me...if I get it I know that I will probably never get any homework done, so maybe I'll wait a little while until finals are over....AAAAARRRAAAAAGGGGGHHHHHH!!!! I can't wait that long!!!

Thanks for this. However, I was kind of hoping Kred would send me an email with the information he had. *wink wink* I do not want him to get in trouble, but I am curious as to what he was talking about. I do not mean that I want to steal company software.

Mmmm, sorry it took me so long to respond, I've been kinda busy playing the game (it's that addictive). But yeah, somebody mentioned **warez** Of course I would never advocate using that sort of thing, but I'm SURE that it is available in that form of distribution. It would probably take somebody a long time to download though, but if you were to do it over a T1 connection, you might manage it pretty quickly. Oh, and I saw somebody mention something about the game recoginizing whether it is a **warez** copy. Of course, I wouldn' know for sure, but I guess there'd probably be a crack to download that would take care of that. But I don't advocate doing anything like that either. Since this forum isn't really the place to discuss that sort of thing, feel free to email me about it. Here's my addy: kred@springmail.com And in regards to OCing, I'm running it on an OC'd p3 700. See my sig for details. I had to get this on topic somehow right?

Hehe, I hear it's great too, but by your description... Sounds like a computer version of those little characters that you control on a little handheld thing. I forget the name... they had many. You know... the handheld little eggs where you grow your guy up and feed it and beat it ect.

Yeah, I just got B&W and played it some over the weekend. One question though. Why would they employ the same method of 'camera control' that completely ruined Force Commander? I mean, it does get easier after a bit, but sheesh, I've been panning through mountains and all. All in all, I'm liking it. I'm seeing some graphics glitches, especially in the temple, even after I upgraded to the 11.01 NVidia drivers, must be my TNT2. I loved Populous, and Dungeon Keeper, this has the best of both and then some. Looking forward to actually accomplishing something, i.e. how do you tie that kidnapper to your leesh, where the heck are all the sheep?
