I have a friend who is moving back to Hungary and I have a couple of questions...1. I know power is different over there, is there some kind of converted that is needed? 2. What about the modem, are the phone lines the same? Am I overlooking anything, any information would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks.

Hungary uses 220V power. If there's a switch on the back of the computer's power supply, you should be able to flip it to 220V, and it'll work fine. Your friend will need a different power cable or an adapter, though. (If an adapter is used and it reduces voltage from 220 to 110, don't flip the selector switch on the power supply -- leave it at 110V.)An adapter will most likely be needed for the monitor, as I don't know of any that have a voltage selector switch. Make sure the adapter reduces the wall voltage from 220 to 110. Take a look at http://comdinet.com/tn/ahouse.htm . There's a diagram that shows you what Hungary's outlets look like. (Hungary's outlets are D & I on the diagram.) As for the phone lines, they most likely are different, but I can't say for certain. Some modems have country selector utilities that allow them to be used on different phone systems. I've only seen this on laptop modems and high-end U.S. Robotics Courier modems, though. (I'm sure there are other modems that have them, too, but I don't know which ones.)
