Jeez, Nintendo, What are you DOING?!
By Klashe January 18, 2001, 01:50 PM

http://www.dailyradar.com/nintendo/index.shtml

This is a sad day indeed. I find it unbelieveable that nintendo is sueing Imagine (owners of Daily Radar, IGN and countless other online magazines) over a Pokemon Strategy guide!

to me, nintendo has always been supportive of their products being covered and it's not like this strat guide represented something different than other strat guides.

If nintendo wins this suit, online game coverage could take a turn for the worst. Objectivity would be compromised and many companies (like Imagine) will just stop covering games altogether for fear of being sued.

Jeez, nintendo, is one little non-nintendo pokemon guide THAT important?

By Sol January 18, 2001, 01:53 PM

This isn't the first time a company has sued over a strategy guide. Wont be the last either.

By The_Sharq January 18, 2001, 01:59 PM

Nintendo is so stupid, the gamecube is going to fail anyway.

Why do you think it will fail?

By overdriver January 18, 2001, 02:22 PM

hehe.. Nintendo learned from the companies who sued them before: Universal studio sued Nin for using the name,'Donkey Kong'(King Kong). Mattel sued Nin for releasing original NES(using cartridge format on game console), etc. Nintendo is like brain damage child suing everyone. I never liked Nintendo except their game. Nintendo cares only big customer like under age 7 or something. heh!

If the xbox gets release 2 months after the Gamecube, which do you think will win. If xbox gets delayed than yes Gamecube will do really well. But Gamecube doesn't have nearly as much press behind it as the xbox. If there was as much hype as there was with the n64 it would give the xbox alot of competition. Nintendo has games like mario and zelda but thats all that i think that will save it, i'm hoping nintendo has more and better games than they had with the n64.
I really don't want any consoles to succeed to be honest because, consoles are literally blowing pc's out of the water with their graphics. Games aren't all about graphics but they add to the depth and realism to a game. Alot of developers are making games for consoles and delaying pc games until hell freezes over. I fear for the future of the PC as one of the premire gaming platforms. Hopefully the xbox will be delayed, i hope.

You sir are not a gamer. I don't care if a game is on a console, pc, or my old atari. I love all kinds of games. sports, rpgs, fps, mario, zelda, quake. I dont care. I think you are misinformed about games being delayed for pc becuase of consoles. could you name some please? Also, I think the gamecbe and xbox will both do good. GASP, imagine that, two systems, that are aimed at two different markets doing good? I don't want to see any system fail and I don't want to see any of them delayed. Competition is what drives this industry sometimes and with competition, it means more inovative games and lower prices. thank you and good day.

ps- "I fear for the future of the PC as one of the premire gaming platforms. " sorry, but if you look at the sales charts, console games sale way more then pc games.

By overdriver January 18, 2001, 02:47 PM

I don't think Gamecub will fail because of mario, zelda. Look at N64: it had only mario64 for killer title and there were only 3 titles available at launch but they maintained #2 spot because big N managed to releas couple of killer title per year(goldeneyes, zelda, Banjo, smash brothers, etc) even if big name 3rd party support was almost non-exist. I still think Mario64 is the king of all 3D action platform games. Besides, gamecube is much developer friendly environment(no more ridiculous cartridge format, no more complex programming, no more crappy support from Nin). I'd buy gamecube right away as long as Mario, Zelda comes out exclusivly. but I will take more time to buy Xbox since I don't see much of killer console software(not PC game software). I see only MetalGear game for consideration. Technical/graphical superiority never justifies alone to make me buy game. I don't worry about gamecube but I really worry about Playstation2 and Xbox.. whoever wins the throne of console world, I don't have any doubt that Nintendo will be #2 spot again. but I don't think that gamecube will be #1 spot either.. It would be PS2 or Xbox. Most likey PS2. oh I hate PS2 but Sony gonna win because people at media are stupid. ;(

I must of ssid something you didn't understand. I didn't say pc games were getting delayed because of consoles. I said that pc games were being delayed period. TF2, Tribes 2, Return to castle wolfenstein, Doom 3, DNF, and Halo. Who knows if will even see those last 2. And I hope that GC gives xbox competition, I just hope it doesn't keep the little kid reputation that the N64 had.

P.S. I know console games sell more than pc games, that is why i said "i fear for the future of the pc as a premere gaming platform" Console games double the sales of pc games. And the pc games that really sell are games like "who wants to be a millionaire" "the sims" "barbie's interactive some crap"

ok, I thought you were saying game developers was delaying pc games to make console games. Remember though, PC games have always been delayed, its nothing new. I am disapointed just as the next person, but after awhile I have learned to live with it.

Nintendo is FAR from being stupid, you peoples that say they are probably didnt read the full lawsuit.

1- Imagine media used copywright images from nintendo and used the pokemon franchise without nintendo's authorization, they did it to make MONEY, they were selling guides in stores ILLEGALY.

its business guys, You cant take a pokemon, sonic, xbox or whatever you want in a magazine and sell them for money without the sponser's authorization.

If nintendo would not of done this, then imagine media could make even more money off nintendo and if nintendo would end up suing them later, they would have hard time cause they left them do it years ago (now). So they had no choices to do this.

It doesnt stop peoples from posting stuffs about pokemon or whatever they want on the net, if the websites arent making the readers pay to see, nothing is illegal.

btw this happens everyday, microsoft, sony, sega, intel, amd, nvidia, ati, any companies have lawyers that do that constantly. Its just that daily radar feel like stupid morons and make a big story out of it, they are the stupid one for making illegal guides.

remember when nintendo sued perma 2 years ago for the goldeneye guide? its the same story here, yet nobody remember.

the only thing nintendo will do is ask the money they lost with those unnoficial guides, then life is back to normal. Imagine media wont die, they'll just loose some money that they didnt earn.

sorry klashe but its not really how it works

online coverage isnt the samething why imagine media is being sued, daily radar make it show like that but they are morons.

If the websites arent making the readers pay MONEY to see the coverage or walkthrought, nothing is illegal, but imagine media was making guides WITH the screenshots that nintendo made themselves at spaceworld which were copywrighted, and the worst, they sold the guides in stores, which is a damn stupid mistake.

IGN said this, websites have nothing to fear about this, but publishers that are making guides or coverage and sell them in stores, should know the law in the first place, just like every other mags, they pay nintendo to use their stuffs, so why would imagine media not pay nintendo and get away with it? its stealing imo, they deserved it.

By Adamp44 January 18, 2001, 08:26 PM

If I were Nintendo I would say to these online sites: "Hey, next time you post an unofficial strategy guide for one of our games, the least you could do is ask us first! Anyway, you get the point. They bring in their fair share of revenue; do they really need to pick on the little ones trying to attract people to their site?

DEATH TO CONSOLES EVERYWHERE!!! BWAHAHAHAHHAHA, MWAHAHAHHAHAHHAA

Yeah, I realized this after I read a post from a non-Imagine site. It just pissed me off at first that my fave company would do
something like that.
I had no idea that they were selling the damn thing!? That is idiotic. Especially with copyrighted shots. They should know better themselves being an online publishing company.
I guess I jumped the gun with the post. It kinda bothers me too because I usually examine both sides of the story.
