Free Internet Service Providers(ISPs)!
By shawnmos November 28, 2000, 12:29 AM

My Altavista free internet access was down today and I need a backup in case it goes down again. I had FreeInternet but it does not have a local # anymore and now I can't even get it to work at all. Can some kind person list or link me to a site with every Free ISP. There aren't too many of them anymore. It has to be free cause I'm too cheep to pay for internet. Thanks!

netzero is a pain in the butt. try freelane. it's from excite. hehe, i don't have to use free ones: I've got CABLE!

Most (all?) of them use psi-nets backbone, and unfortunately they are going bankrupt rapidly! - what happens to my free-lycos/excite when/if psi-net goes under I don't know. Maybe another telecom. company will buyout their assets before they literally shut-down there cables .

Those free 56k service were always slower than the stuff I had to pay for. Got broadband now. Have to pay for it, but I ain't complaining at all .

I think AT&T is running some sort of special that runs about $5/month. At that rate, I'm thinking of picking it up myself as a backup!

1stup.com is going out of business so most of the free ones are going under including Altavista and Excite. Are there any other ones other then Netzero? Because Netzero is a piece of crap and I am loosing Altavista Dec. 10.

Try seniorsinfree, no banners, is not slow here.

I'm not a senior so wouldn't that be dishonest.

I dunno if any of you heard, but ALTAVISTA is shutting down their free isp down on Sunday. Also the other like Netzero and bluelight.com are togo next. So you will eventually have to pay.

Yeah that's what I was saying.

Well if they all are shutting down, I guess freedsl.com is not going to happen either...
BTW A freind of mine uses Freelane and NetZero, and they both are really fast, downloads as fast as 5KB/s maybe more.

Juno is still advertising pretty hard. I don't think they would still be sending out CDs if they were going under. I have not tried it, but have some friends that don't complain. HEHE I just got Cable and feel like a king.

I decided what the hell and download it anyway. I signed up yesterday and everything worked fine. Today when I signed on, it said that to continue to get internet access I would have to now pay for it. This just sucks! INTERNET STAY FREE !!!

Not for me! All of the free ISPs I have used connect at 46-48k. 48k is the max I can get with my phone line!

I had juno free access and it sucked! I got rid of it when they got rid of my local number. They said to use that number I had to pay 9.95 per month. Can you believe that? I tried to hack juno to make it dial the old number but it would not work. There was no way I would pay long distance for internet. What is wierd is that every free ISP that I have had that has gone out of business all had the same number. Worldspy, Freewwweb, Juno, and now Seniors Infree. I know it by heart. It is 941-948-8260.
