This spring will see gamers get stuck into the kind of action they've been crying out for with Take 2's Oni. Due for release on PC in January and PS2 in February, Oni will bring together the very best elements of Manga animation and full-on beat-'em-up gameplay.

The year is 2032 and crime pays. As Konoko, a one-woman SWAT team, the player must kick, punch and shoot their way into a ruthless and powerful crime syndicate and put a stop to its corrupt machinations. In a perfect marriage of style and content, Oni is a Manga-fan's wet dream. Classic anime influences mean that the gamer will get a chance to actually 'live' out their fantasies. A twisted plot, hardcore martial arts action and gorgeously designed levels will make even Disney fans get involved.

Professional architects were drafted to supply the sprawling environments. Using industry design tools the varied levels include a massive 15-storey police tower and a vast mountain fortress. Further authentic touches were added by a team of dedicated anime artists giving Oni's levels a believable urban feel. A revolutionary new fighting system called "full contact action" means that there's more than one way to approach a fight when Konoko has simply got to kill every living thing in a room. If one of the many guns Konoko can use runs out of ammo, she won't be shy of breaking a few bones with her martial arts. Better still, should she knock a weapon out of an opponent's hand, she can pick it up and use it against its former owner.

The game's radical animation system means that players will get to admire Konoko's every fluid move. Sprinting forward, tucking into a dive roll and popping up into a flying kick is simple and devastating. What's more, full interaction with her environment means that Konoko wouldn't think twice about shooting out the lights, diving through a window and tossing a grenade over her shoulder as she leaves.
