Sega Corp.'s flagship Dreamcast video-game machine might be its last pure game console, as the company seeks to push its technology into other devices such as mobile phones, according to people familiar with the company. Speculation about Sega's future has grown since it announced in late October that it expects to post a loss of 22.1 billion yen ($190 million) for the year ending March 31, its fourth straight year of losses. The company's president, 74-year-old Isao Okawa, has been ill, though Sega says he is out of the hospital and on the job. Mr. Okawa personally owns 13% of Sega, and computer-services company CSK Corp., which he controls, owns 24.5%. Sega spokesman Munehiro Umemura says the company is sticking to a plan, announced Nov. 1, that places three businesses at Sega's core: game software, network services and amusement arcades. The plan doesn't commit Sega to producing a successor to the Dreamcast, which has failed to meet expectations despite the slow start of its chief rival, Sony Corp.'s PlayStation 2. [Source: WSJ]

I can't tell you how many times I've wished Gearbox, Valve or somebody would create a new Half-Life add-on for us to chew on while we wait. Well, that's what Gunman Chronicles is, a full-blown Half-Life add-on, only without the Half-Life. Check out the Gunman Chronicles Review!

Gunman Chronicles is a total conversion of the Half-Life engine from enterprising mod-makers Rewolf Studios. Total conversions are labors of love requiring lots of work, sweat and tears often with no compensation. That's why it's special that Sierra and Valve have picked these guys up and are giving them a full-blown release. You will hear from Rewolf again, I guarantee that. Gunman is at least that good.

The 3DO Company announced it has begun shipping the AquaAqua game for the PlayStation2 computer entertainment system. Developed by Zed Two, Ltd., the AquaAqua game is an addictive, fast-action, 3D puzzle game set in a liquid landscape. Players trap water by positioning pieces as fast as they fall to form dams and lakes. Watch the weather; if it rains too much your lake will overflow and the water goes down the drain. Lose too much water and it's ``game over.'' The AquaAqua game features three addictive play modes in which to play. In Story Puzzle Mode you clear stages and travel through four different time periods in the earth's history. Players also come face-to-face with monsters that try to thwart their progress. Quick Puzzle Mode is where you play any cleared stage for maximum score. VS. Puzzle Mode enables you to play head-to-head against a friend.

A brand new version of the popular mod browsing program has been released by the GoingUP Team. This new version has many enhancements, and improvements.

  • Streamlined the code - EXE is now about 1/3 its size it was in Build 130.
  • Changed mod subsections so each game simply has "A to L" and "M to Z" sections.
  • Removed gaming site section limits. I can now begin to add loads more.
  • Removed File Lists. They will return...
  • Changed presentation a bit, including a fix for 800x600 users.
  • Added Star Trek Armada support.

Current users should be updated automatically. It may appear like nothing is happening, but that is because the update is being downloaded, and will be run once finished. A quick note on this release The mod lists are not very substantial, but thanks to the on-the-fly list update capabilities of GoingUP, we will be adding at least 2 more per day.
